Jennifer Ananda is a member of the Investigation, Hearing, & Appeal Services Team at Grand River Solutions. Jennifer conducts investigations and serves as an advisor and hearing officer in Title IX, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation matters.
Jennifer has nearly two decades of experience working with students, staff, and faculty in higher education. Jennifer served as the Title IX Coordinator at Emporia State University, where they conducted discrimination and harassment investigations, facilitated Title IX hearings, provided education and training to students, staff, and faculty, drafted policy and aligned university practices with best practices, and chaired the sexual violence task force. Prior to that, Jennifer was the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Policy Specialist at the University of Kansas (KU). Jennifer also participated as a hearing officer with other universities and is an adjunct instructor. They have taught social welfare and leadership courses on intimate partner violence, sexual violence prevention, and policy and currently teach human sexuality and sexual and gender diversity.
Prior to their work with universities, Jennifer was a litigator, providing representation on civil, child in need of care, protection order, and immigration matters in Kansas. Jennifer also provided civil legal representation, conducted Title IX trainings, and did community-based research as an employee of the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. They were the Executive Director of The Sexual Trauma and Abuse Care Center where they supervised staff, managed budget and grants, fostered community relationships, and implemented the mission and vision of the organization. Jennifer was also elected to the Lawrence City Commission and was mayor of Lawrence, Kansas in 2020. In that role, they were awarded the Culture of Health Action Award from the LiveWell Sexual Violence Prevention Workgroup. Jennifer has co-authored peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter.
Jennifer is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Jennifer received a J.D. and Master of Social Welfare from KU. Jennifer has an bachelors degree in film and English. They are currently writing their dissertation.
