Laura Nelson

Title IX Coordinator Services

Laura Nelson works in Title IX and Equity Coordinator Services at Grand River Solutions.

With over 10 years of experience in higher education and K-12, Laura has worked with students, administration, staff, faculty, and key stakeholders on matters involving civil rights, student conduct, employment law, reasonable accommodations and development initiatives.

Before joining Grand River Solutions, Laura served as the Director of Diversity and Title IX Compliance at Hunter College. In this role, she investigated and addressed all reported violations of the College’s EEO, Reasonable Accommodations, and Title IX policies. She managed legal compliance obligations pursuant to various City, State, and Federal laws, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, FERPA, the Violence Against Women Act, and the Jeanne Clery Act. Additionally, she assisted with the College’s recruiting and hiring processes, completed annual Affirmative Action Plans, drafted policies and procedures, chaired the Campus Safety Advisory Committee, conducted numerous employee and student trainings, and served as a liaison between the Office of Diversity and Compliance and other departments within the College, such as Public Safety, Student Affairs, and Legal Affairs. She also participated in internal reviews, external audits and investigations, and served on working groups and taskforces with the City University of New York for 25 campuses.

Prior to her tenure at Hunter College, Laura worked in public interest law, as well as in-house focusing on intellectual property matters, contracts, risk assessment, negotiations, and internal policy improvement and development.

Laura holds a J.D. from Pace Law School and a B.A. in Public Policy and Law from Trinity College.
